DVB-S2 is the new standard for satellite broadband application that substitutes the previous DVB-S, enhancing some features. DVB-S2 was developed trying to improve transmission performance, total flexibility and reasonable receiver complexity. These goals are also obtained by applying Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) mechanism. ACM in DVB-S2 satellite communication systems leads to a more spectrum efficiency since the transmission parameters are dynamically adjusted to accommodate the channel conditions. However, they still present certain limitations when used in satellite the environment such as long transmission delay. Indeed, the time-varying nature of the channel conditions augmented with the high feedback latency deteriorates significantly the efficiency of such mechanisms. Moreover, the feedback signaling messages are transported over a non-reliable transport protocol such as UDP in order to avoid frequent retransmission in such non-reliable networks. This has the consequence of using outdated channel state in case of packets loss. In this paper, we proposed a channel prediction scheme using information of channel conditions and reference data. Simulation results show that a proposed scheme allows a correct prediction and a high throughput compare to Constant Coding and Modulation (CCM) scheme. |
