Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Great interest has been focused on a program of shopping tours in nursing homes. This program provides opportunities for inhabitants to enjoy not only shopping outside accompanied with nurses or medical staffs but also evaluating their ‘trophies’ with other home-mates. Such program exhibits high popularity for the aged, however, we need physiological evidences how shopping increases their health, in order to promote a national measure of making such programs into wide use. This paper describes a neurphysiological approach to investigating how shopping behaviors affect both physiological and psychological functions of the aged. We present a hypothesis that the reward system requires activates monoamine nerve systems at around the brainstem throughout a series of shopping behaviors. We present a method of evaluating the dopaminergic activity from analysis of spontaneous EEG, which will be used for clarifying the effect of shopping behaviors.
