[Special Talk] Development of high-resolution in vivo-CT and numerical simulation of airflow in peripheral airways

(in English) Pulmonary airflow is closely related to pulmonary function and dynamic processes such as gas exchange and the deposition and dispersion of particles. In peripheral airways, the complex geometry changes markedly during respiration and not only the three dimensional geometry, but also, the structural changes are fundamental to the study of airway mechanics. In this study we observed and analyzed airway deformation directly and simulated airflow numerically. In particular, in order to visualise airway deformation, we developed a synchrotron radiation based in vivo-CT for small airways and high-resolution micro-CT for pulmonary acinus.
