Tone compression of WDR image by segmentation based on local luminance distribution and region-based contrast adjustment

(in English) For display purpose, the tone of wide dynamic range (WDR) image should be compressed properly. In this paper, we propose a tone compression method of WDR image. Our method consists of the segmentation of WDR image and the detection of I/O characteristics for each region. First, we calculate luminance correlation values between neighboring pixels, and the luminance space is divided into several luminance groups by using the correlation values and the luminance histogram. Then, the WDR image is segmented by using the luminance groups and the I/O characteristics of each region is detected by considering the luminance distribution around the region. The effectiveness of the proposed method was confirmed by experimental results.
