Recently, there is an increasing demand for services based on location of mobile terminal. For the realization of the services, we need to estimate real-time location of the mobile terminal. Several studies have been made on location estimation technique using GPS and wireless LAN and so on. On the other hand, a system such as the car navigation system combines the location estimation technique by the GPS with the location tracking technique using sensors on the car. We can use the sensors such as acceleration and orientation sensors for the tracking technique on the mobile terminal as typified by the latest smart-phone. In this paper, we propose a new location estimation scheme which combines the estimation and tracking techniques on the mobile terminal. We assume information on moving distance and orientation from the sensors and propose a scheme to improve the location estimation accuracy by introducing the well-known Kalman filter for tracking the mobile terminal. By computer simulations, we show conditions of the location estimation accuracy for the sensors to adopt the proposed filter. We need moving distance estimation with high accuracy from simulation results. |
