Adaptive Amplify-and-Forward Relaying with Efficient Non-orthogonal Frequency Partitioning for Cellular Downlink
Kiichi Tateishi, Kenichi Higuchi (Tokyo Univ. of Science) RCS2011-224
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This paper presents the efficient frequency partitioning schemes for the proposed adaptive amplify-and-forward (AF)-type relaying method in the cellular downlink. The adaptive AF relaying method adaptively selects the active relay stations (RSs) based on the path loss between each mobile terminal and the base station (BS) and that between each RS in order to avoid unnecessary enhancement of inter-cell interference and bandwidth reduction due to transmission relay. To further enhance the spectrum efficiency when relaying, the frequency used for the relay transmission from the RS to the cell-edge user is reused for the direct transmission from the BS to the cell-center user in the proposed non-orthogonal frequency partitioning method. The computer simulations show that the proposed adaptive AF-type relaying with non-orthogonal frequency partitioning achieves approximately 10% higher average throughput compared to that with orthogonal frequency partitioning, while achieving the same cell-edge user throughput.
