Proposal of ICT Platform Enabling Flexible Operation of Smart Grid and Field Demonstration of Building Energy Management System (BEMS)

(in English) The R&D and field demonstration on smart grid technologies are performed actively both in Japan and overseas with a view to introducing renewable energy sources and achieving efficient energy management. The smart grid aims at reducing environmental burdens and operational expenditure (OPEX) by integrating electrical power technology and information and communication technology (ICT), while there are some slight differences about the background and purpose in each country. However, it is difficult to operate the smart grid flexibly, since there is no platform to manage many sensors and actuators in an integrated way. In this report, we propose an ICT platform where many sensors, actuators, and energy management sys-tems (EMSs) can be managed in an integrated way. On the proposed platform, we define extensible markup language (XML) interfaces, which enable flexible system design, and data acquisition and control (DAC) functions in the power and communi-cation systems are operated in an integrated way. In addition, this report describes the field demonstration of a building EMS (BEMS) to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed platform.
