Enhancement of solution for the hidden terminal problem by using random length signals in wireless LANs
Kento Yamamoto, Hiroshi Inai (Okayama Prefectural Univ.) RCS2011-202
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The hidden terminal problem is a big problem when we use wireless networks. To solve that problem,RTS/CTS is used in IEEE 802.11.However,when offered load increases, collisions of RTS
frames also increase.Increase of frame retransmissions due to
collisions causes a performance degradation.

In former article,we propose random length jam signals for RTS frames.
The simulation results have shown the proposed scheme improves throughput in comparison with RTS/CTS.

In this paper,we have add two effective functions to the former protcol.

First; when a backoff expires, the terminal postpones it's transmission reservation with a certain probabillity.
By this function, collisions under heavy load conditions can be dissolved.
Second; an access point uses random length jam signals in substitution for reply signala.
That is expected to reduce the useless time during the transmission reservation.

The simulation results show that the enhancement scheme improves throughput in comparison with the former proposed protcol.
