Asymmetric process for expanding/contracting motion detection on a dual task situation -- An investigation from the allocation of attentional resource --
Taichi Ishii, Miyuki Kamachi (Kogakuin Univ.) HIP2011-54
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Previous research indicated the asymmetric perception which only the detection of expansion shows pop-out effect where contraction does not. We examined whether the asymmetry in perception of expanding/contracting motion arose also on a dual task situation. The dual tasks used here were central task (RSVP task) and peripheral task (visual search task using expand/contract stimuli). From the results, we confirmed the pop-out effect only for detecting expanding motion in both single task and dual task condition. Therefore, we can conclude that asymmetry of motion detection between expansion/ contraction was shown even if other task required attention. In other word, the attentional resource for perception of expansion/contraction motion was independent from other discrimination tasks.
