Recently, for the prevention or early detection of diseases, many studies have been conducted to measure biological information in everyday life. We have been developed the biological information measurement mat to obtain ECG (Electrocardiogram) and PPG (Photoplethysmogram) from the sole. Calculation of PWV (Pulse wave velocity) from ECG and PPG suggested the possibility to estimate the blood pressure without compression by the cuff. This study proposes the measurement method of PPG on anywhere of the mat by applying FTIR (Frustrated total internal reflection). FTIR is the phenomenon that total reflection of light turns into a diffusion reflection when an outside refractive index changes. Therefore, the light is incident on the finger which was put on any place of the surface of the panel by using FTIR. The subjective experiment reveals that the proposed system can measure PPG anywhere if the finger is positioned on the surface of the panel. The combination of biological information measurement mat with the proposed area sensing system has the potential to measure biological information without giving a sense of restraint. |
