Fabrication of test apparatuses to assess the immunity of mobile robots
Masayuki Murakami, Hiroyasu Ikeda (JNIOSH) EMCJ2011-79
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Some companies have developed robots that assist in daily human activities and that are driven by high-power motors. Standardized safety measures are required to put these robots to practical use. Since there exists the risk that a robot might malfunction while moving within the human living space, from the viewpoint of safety and EMC, it is necessary to verify that the robot will be in a safe state in the presence of moderate electromagnetic disturbances. An immunity assessment based on functional safety for mobile robots was planned, and test apparatuses that activate the safety functions of robots, such as emergency stop and collision avoidance, were fabricated. A method of checking whether the robot is in the intended safe state when the emergency stop button is pushed or a dummy is moved close to the robot in electromagnetic disturbances was conducted according to the basic technique of a radiated immunity test.
