Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The reproduction systems of 22.2 multichannel sound system for Super Hi-Vision with the reduced number of loudspeakers have been discussed. The subjective evaluation experiments for the systems had been performed only at the center of loudspeaker arrangements. Since television may be watched at the position other than the center in the home, wide listening area that keeps original spatial impression of 22.2 multichannel sound system is required. The subjective evaluation experiments were performed in order to examine the size of listening area maintaining spatial impression of 22.2 multichannel sound with the various number and location of loudspeakers. As a result, it was found that the listening area broadened with increasing the number of loudspeakers. It was also pointed out that the listening area broadened by optimizing the locations of loudspeakers when the number of loudspeakers was fixed.
