Comparison of Optimum Routes with PACOTS in Pacific Ocean

(in English) The Pacific Organized Track System (PACOTS) establishes flexible routes each day based on the weather forecast. A User Preferred Route (UPR) is the optimum route for each flight. UPRs have been introduced into low traffic airspace over the Pacific Ocean.
This paper describes the characteristics of westbound UPRs and PACOTS routes. We compared the positional characteristics of UPRs with PACOTS routes, and their fuel consumption. As a result, we found that PACOTS routes and UPRs often coincided with the fixed North Pacific (NOPAC) routes in April, while westbound UPRs were sometimes situated further south than NOPAC routes in August. UPRs were sometimes different to PACOTS routes and could give lower fuel consumption.
