[Invited Talk] Molecular Dynamics Study of the Effects of Surface Polarization on Wetting and Local Viscosity of Water Droplet on a Solid

(in English) Molecular dynamics simulations of single water or water-IPA (Isopropyl-alcohol) mixture droplets on a solid surface were performed. The interaction for solid-water molecules was modeled as the combination of L-J and Coulomb potentials, and the effects of Coulomb interaction were independently investigated by appending arbitrary electric polarization as a parameter on the solid surface. The water droplet became more wettable with both upward and downward surface polarizations, and the cosine of the contact angle was roughly a linear function of the absolute value of surface dipole although the correlation was obviously different depending on the polarization direction. The mean rotational diffusion coefficient was higher near the adsorption layer on downward polarized surface while it was reduced in the vicinity of upward polarized surface. For water-IPA mixture droplet, the increase of contact angle was not linear to the IPA fraction because of the complex effects of IPA addition on vapor-liquid, solid-liquid, and three-phase interfaces.
