Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) With the rapid growth of functional wireless terminal markets including smart phones, tablets and netbooks, Improving throughput is increasingly needed for wireless LANs. In the existing MAC protocol of CSMA/CA, multiple on-going flows in the same frequency can experience degraded throughput due to packet collision with their hidden nodes. Channel reservation using RTS/CTS handshake has capability to avoid hidden nodes, but instead it creates exposed nodes leading to throughput decrease. We present DRNAV(Distance-and-Role-dependent NAV) to resolve exposed node problem in RTS/CTS. In DRDAV, each node estimates the distance to its sender node (or receiver node) as well as the distance to the surrounding node by which it received RTS or CTS. It decides whether or not to set NAV depending on these distances and whether it is the sender or the receiver. Results of performance evaluation show that DRNAV improves throughput over CSMA/CA and existing CSMA/CA with RTS/CTS by approximately 40% and 30% respectively.
