At liver surgery planning stage, extraction of liver volumetry would be helpful for surgeons. Main problem at liver extraction is wide variability of livers in shape and size. The present study developed an algorithm for liver extraction based on blood vessel information in two stages. Hepatic blood vessels were extracted and then used to control liver region extraction. Contrast enhanced CT datasets at portal venous phase only were used. Results of applying this algorithm for 30 cases of normal and abnormal livers agreed with a gold standard done by an expert at a rate of 94.63%. It seems to be a promising method for liver volumetry extraction of various shapes and sizes. |
