Centralized and Distributed MAC Protocol for IEEE802.11 WLAN

(in English) This paper proposes an high-efficient MAC (Media Access Control) protocol for IEEE802.11 Wireless LAN (WLAN) systems. Besides, the proposed scheme enables to coexist with conventional DCF (Distributed Coordinated Function). In IEEE802.11 standard, centralized control such as PCF (Point Coordination Function) or HCCA (HCF Controlled Channel Access) are able to realize effective transmission compared to DCF. However, in these schemes, transmission of DCF is prohibited because of NAV (Network Allocation Vector) by these schemes. Therefore, the coexistence of DCF and these centralized controls (PCF or HCCA) is difficult. In the proposed scheme, centralized control is realized by using fixed backoff. In addition, coexistence with DCF is enabled by permitting the collision with DCF. Simulations show that the proposed scheme enables coexistence between DCF. Moreover, the proposed scheme performs better throughput than the conventional DCF not only under contention free condition but also under contention as well.
