A Proposal of Power-Saving Scheme for Wireless Access Networks with Access-Point Sharing

(in English) In wireless access network, where many stations shere access points (APs) which are disposed widely, power consumption of APs would be wasteful when the number of connected stations is small. Therefore, a controller in the network turns off APs which have no effect on coverage area of the network. A power-saving scheme, which turns off all APs except one if their coverage areas are almost overlapped, was proposed. The scheme defines these APs as a cluster. However, when the density of APs is relatively small, the ratio of the sleeping APs is degraded without area shrinking. This report proposes a power-saving scheme which generates the clusters and turns off clusters if the coverage areas of the clusters are covered by neighbor clusters. This report also clarifies the superiority of the proposed scheme by computer simulations.
