To assist blind persons’ mobility, we are developing a tactile map automated creation system. As it is important to read tactile symbols in the map quickly and accurately, we conducted experiment to evaluate findability and discriminability of these symbols. As a result, it was found that tactile guides make the symbols to be fastly searched, and it was difficult to discriminate the difference between some lines and textures in the embossed maps. Based on these results we concluded that improvements of tactile symbols are necessary. |
