A Study on Link Quality Measurement Using Parallel Broadcasting for Wireless Mesh Networks

(in English) In Wireless Mesh Network where mesh routers are usually fixed, it is possible to achieve high throughput by assigning an fixed optimum transmission rate at each link. In a new proposed method, designated multiple mesh routers are allowed to broadcast probe packets simultaneously with limited set of transmission rates. In this paper, we evaluated the performance of the proposed method in a real-world testbed and compared the results with those of the conventional method. It is found that the measurement time is reduced from about 50 to 65%. The same optimum rate as in the conventional method is obtained for 50% to 64% and this ratio increases to 82 to 90%, if direct higher and lower rates are added. The proposed method gives the similar results with the conventional method in terms of the maximum throughput.
