| (in English) | The Software Defined Radio Forum (currently the Wireless Innovation Forum) in the United States has been continuing the standardization and the spread promotion activities of the software-defined radio (SDR). SDR is a basic technology of wireless communication that is even discussed at the standardization conferences of ITU and IEEE. In the standardization process of IMT-2000 (the third generation mobile communication system), the SDR technology was occasionally examined for the integration and the coexistence of various wireless communication systems but it was not adopted in the IMT-2000. Now SDR has been developed into the research of an integrated wireless network of the cognitive radio (CR). It seems, however, that it is on the way of practical use. On the other hand, the application software has been increasing globally for smartphones and cloud computing. This paper describes the future roles and the issues of SDR and CR at the present time for the integration of diversified wireless communication systems spreading over the broadband wireless networks such as Bluetooth, WiFi, WiMAX, and LTE and the wireless sensor networks, etc. | |
