Multi-loudspeaker system for removing cooped-up feeling
Kenji Sugimoto, Kota Takahashi (UEC) EA2010-130
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Recently, multi-loudspeaker systems are being widely used. However, mono sound sources and stereo sound sources still prevail as a source of music.
Some methods for extending output channels are required when playing these sound sources on a multiple loudspeaker system. If channels were simply extended using an identical signal, cooped-up feeling is caused by the interference of signals.
The purpose of this study is to build playing method of a signal on multiple loudspeakers to removing cooped-up feeling and high realistic sensation. We design a multi-loudspeaker system and analyzed what was happening with the interference of sound by sound pressure distribution.
Based on this analysis, the multiple channel playing method with frequency band dividing method are proposed. In order to overcome drawbacks of the problem using a time-invariant filter system based on the multiple channels playing, a new design method of time-variant and adaptive filter system is also proposed.
