A study of acoustic evanescent wave reproduction method using planar array

(in English) We present a local area sound reproduction system in which
sound energy outside of the target area is low while sound energy in the target area is high. Most approaches for this type of system are based on the directional loudspeaker. These methods attempt to localize the sound field by arranging the layout of the loudspeaker or controlling beam. However, a directional speaker can not control distance attenuation. Thus, sound may leak outside the target area. To overcome this problem,
we focus on an acoustic evanescent wave that has faster distance attenuation and propose an implementation method for reproducing the evanescent wave. The reproduction system is constructed of a dipole loudspeaker array and digital filter. A computer simulation was performed to investigate the relationship between parameters in the proposed method and sound distance attenuation property.
