In cloud computing, various user systems with different performance requirements are configured in one data center. Generally server and storage resources are guaranteed in a cloud data center, but network resources are out of scope in many cases. In such cases, the performance of the user systems may not be guaranteed because the data transmitting time between servers increases along with the network congestion. To guarantee the network performance for a cloud data center, we have proposed two flow control methods, which are the DiffServ AF and the traffic shaping with DiffServ AF. However the DiffServ AF is not good solution when the network bandwidth utilization is high. On the other hand, the traffic shaping with DiffServ AF is not effective when the network bandwidth utilization is low. To solve these issues, we propose the flow control method based on the network bandwidth utilization. This method monitors a bandwidth utilization of each link on the data center network controlled by the DiffServ AF and applies a traffic shaping to the communication flows associated with the link when the bandwidth utilization of the link exceeds the preset threshold value. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method is effective when the network traffic increases rapidly. |
