In this study, we address noise-induced phenomena in a system of two pulse-coupled resonate-and-fire neuron (RFN) models. The RFN model is a spiking neuron model that has second-order membrane dynamics with a firing threshold and exhibits subthreshold oscillation of membrane potential, resulting in the sensitivity to the timing of inputs. In the pulsed-coupled system, we investigated numerically bifurcation structure leading to complex behaviors such as burst synchronization and chaotic phenomena. In this paper, we report that a novel type of noise-induced phenomena occur when additive noise are given as a perturbation on the threshold in the system and show the specific features come from the bifurcation structure as piecewise smooth dynamical system. |
