Growing Self-organizing Maps based on slime mold dynamics

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page) 
(in English) This paper presents self-organizing maps referring to features of the slime mold and its application to the traveling salesperson problem.
In order to solve the problem, we adopt SOM of ring topology with growing structure.
In update of neighbor cells of a winner, the learning coefficient depends on past history of distance between cells.
This history-controlled learning refers to the slime mold behavior.
Basic numerical experimental results suggest that our algorithm can provide semi-optimal solution.
The performance of our algorithm is compared with that of convention of growing SOMs.
