In this study we propose a hardware based sound localization system for hearing impaired people support. This system presents localization results for a 360 degrees plane, aiming one microphone to the front and the other to the back of the full-plane. It processes the time-delay for half-plane of 180 degrees localization and decides between front or back by processing the sound pressure's difference between both channels. Hardware implementation of this system is simple due to the use of spike trains and binary vectors. Experimental results show that the proposed method can successfully identify 8 directions on the full-plane for several different sound sources. |
