A method for probing neuronal response property considering piecewise linearity

(in English) Reverse correlation techniques have been used in many physiological experiments, which reveal precise linear receptive field structures of neurons in the early visual cortex. In addition, recent studies proposed several methods for probing second- or more higher-order nonlinear properties. To obtain precise information about response properties of neurons, it is necessary to estimate higher-order kernels. However, the higher-order kernel estimation requires a large number of experimental data. In the present study, we propose a method to analyze local linear kernels of nonlinear response properties by approximating the nonlinear kernels by piecewise-linear functions.
