| (in English) | We are aiming for a communication aid called VUTE (visualized universal talking environment) for the people who have difficulties in voice communication, such as foreign travelers, deaf and speaking impaired people. We developed experimental system VUTE 2009 that helps making emergency calls in the case of sudden illness, injury or fire. We also developed VUTE 2010 that helps conversations held in rail stations. This system displays picture symbols on a portable data terminal and prompts a user to select the appropriate symbol. Finally, it outputs sentences which corresponds to the answers given by the user. This paper describes the design concept and an overview of VUTE. Furthermore, classification and systematization of sentences held in public transportation facilities and design of interface of VUTE 2010. We also carried out the evaluation test by seven subjects in their fifties or sixties who do not use computer often. As the result, we confirmed that VUTE can output the conversation sentences which corresponds to the situations which were arranged preliminarily, without using written letters/characters or voices. | |
