Two Dimensional Measurement of Displacement Mechanomyographic Signal

(in English) Skeletal muscle consists of large numbers of motor units, each of which fires independently during voluntary contraction. The myoelectric signal which is recorded on the skin surface, namely a surface electromyogram (sEMG), is a time-related and spatial aggregate of the action potentials of these motor units. Mechanomyographic siganal (MMG) is a skin surface vibration caused by muscle contraction and recorded by an accelerometer, a microphone, a displacement transducer etc. Though the EMG (electromyogram) is a signal to contract a skeletal muscle, the MMG directly reflects the activity of muscle contraction. The two-dimensional generating mechanism of MMG has not been clarified in detail, because the simultaneous and multiple measurements of MMG and its analysis methods were undeveloped. In this study, the displacement MMGs were recorded at twenty-one points within 2x6 cm, and the MMG maps were described, while the electrical stimulation was made on the motor point of biceps brachii, and the spatial propagation of twitch waveform was discussed. As a result, it was clarified that the waveform amplitude decreases with propagation along the longitudinal axis of muscle fiber.
