A Phenomenological Theory of Error Rate for Iterative Decoding with Estimated a priori Probability

(in English) A phenomenological theory of error rates for iterative decodings of such as the turbo code and LDPC codes is developed. An empirical error rate formula is given with several parameters which describes a priori probabilities. They are extracted from the experimental results of error rates for a given code. The probability density function of the a priori probability is assumed to be Gaussian where the symmetry of the system is considered. The turbo code results by Berrou et al. are taken as an example and compared with the theoretical results. They are in good agreement.
