An NLOS Mitigation Algorithm with Weight Factor for TDOA Distance Measurement

(in English) Non-line-of-sight (NLOS) identification and mitigation carry significant importance in location systems. Previous research has mainly addressed the problems by using a biased kalman filter. However, through some numerical calculations, we found that the NLOS distance errors are only compensated when the difference between the predicted and measured distance is positive. With the assumption that the distribution of the user's measured distance information can be obtained from the line-of-sight (LOS) condition, this paper proposes a weight distance estimation algorithm in a kalman filter. The proposed algorithm detects a NLOS measured distance using Chauvenet’s criterion first, and then add a weight factor to the detected NLOS measured distance. The determination of the weight factor is to compare the Mahalanobis distance between the NLOS measured distance and the distribution of LOS measurement distances. We evaluated the efficiency of the proposed algorithm. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm reduces the location errors that are affected by NLOS in the same length of step size, compared with the existing algorithm.
