Evaluation of Path Visibility between Base and Mobile Stations in Cellular Communication Systems (II) -- Simulation Using Virtual Building Data --

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Radio propagation models for cellular mobile communication depend on line-of-sight (LOS) or non-line-of-sight (NLOS) states between base and mobile stations (BS and MS). An ITU-R Report (M.2135) defined probability of LOS (path visibility) formulas in five scenarios for evaluating the systems proposed for IMT-Advanced. These formulas are the functions of only the distance between BS and MS. The authors previously examined the path visibility by using a ray tracing simulator and a geographical data base containing real building data, and revealed that the formulas given by ITU-R Rep. M.2135 failed to model the visibility in some conditions. In this present study, simulations using virtual building data were carried out to evaluate dependence of path visibility on average building height and building area ratio.
