Information retrieval systems usually provide only one metadata selected from multiple different metadata corresponding to particular content (one content to one metadata model). However, an expectated value of browsing cost for successful retrieval increases when the selected metadata is not consistent with what the user thinks is interesting. On the other hand, as integrated metasearch services do, if multiple different metadata corresponding to single content are provided(one content to many metadata model), it is highly possible that we can reduce the expected cost of successful retrieval. Then, in this study, we defined three models of user’s retrieval behavior to reveal the expected value of cost for successful retrieval under the one content to many metadata model. In this paper, we studied the derivation of evaluation formula to decide the optimal metadata ranking that archieves minimum expected cost for successful retrieval. |
