Packet Combining Scheme for Single-carrier HARQ Using QRM-ML Block Signal Detection

(in English) QR decomposition with M-algorithm maximum likelihood block signal detection (QRM-MLBD) can significantly improve the achieve the bit error rate (BER) performance of single-carrier (SC) transmission and achieve the BER close to the matched filter (MF) bound. However, its computational complexity is still very high. Recently, we showed that replacing the cyclic prefix (CP) by the known training sequence (TS) reduces the required number of surviving paths in the M-algorithm and thus can further reduce the computational complexity of QRM-MLBD. Hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) is an indispensable error control technique for wireless packet access. The HARQ throughput depends on the packet combining scheme. In this paper, we study the packet combing scheme suitable for SC HARQ using QRM-MLBD. We propose a ML block signal detection using recursive QR packet combining (recursive QRM-MLBD), which incorporates the packet combining into the QR decomposition and M-algorithm. We will show, by computer simulation, that the recursive QR packet combining provides a better throughput performance than the conventional bit-level log likelihood ratio (LLR) packet combining.
