Transmit Power Reduction of Distributed Antenna Network for Downlink Transmissions Using Joint Transmit/Receive Diversity

(in English) Distributed antenna network (DAN), in which a group of multiple antennas are distributed in a cell, can mitigate not only the variations of the local average received signal power due to path loss but also the negative impacts of shadowing and frequency-selective fading. In our previous work, we studied frequency-domain space-time block coded-joint transmit/receive diversity (FD-STBC-JTRD) for the single-carrier (SC-) DAN downlink in a frequency-selective channel and showed that the throughput performance significantly improves by increasing the number of distributed antennas to be used for transmissions. In this paper, we compare SC-DAN and SC centralized antenna network (SC-CAN). The spatial distributions of the downlink throughput achievable by SC-DAN and SC-CAN using FD-STBC-JTRD are investigated by computer simulation and it is shown that SC-DAN can significantly reduce the required transmit power compared to SC-CAN.
