Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) An adaptive dimming technique reduces the power consumption and also improves the picture quality. However the technique causes streaky image degradation when the LCD is viewed from an angle. In this study, the visibility of sinusoidal-shaped pattern having various contrasts and frequencies is evaluated. It is found from the evaluation result, the degradation is not annoying when the width of backlight luminance distribution is 0.7 times wider than the width of dimming segment.
