Motivated by large interest in white space radio systems research, design, and standardization, IEEE SCC41 has started to consider standardization of white space radio systems. In order to have focused discussions on this topic, IEEE SCC41 ad hoc on White Space (WS) Radio was created on 8 March 2010. The scope of this group is to consider interest in, feasibility of, and necessity of developing standard defining radio interface (medium access control and physical layers) for white space communication system. This paper usage models and system requirements developed in the group. Also it shows analysis of other standards/projects on white space radio and need for a new standard. Potential frequency bands for the new standard are discussed. Finally, this paper describes current status and expected development schedule. |
