Evaluation of semiconductor breaker for HVDC power supply system

(in English) A highly stable higher-voltage direct-current (HVDC) power-feeding system is required for use in telecommunications buildings and data centers. To achieve such a highly stable system, we have to control the transitional voltage change in the HVDC system when a short circuit occurs. Downsizing of power supply facilities is also required to increase ICT equipment installed in datacenter. To control the voltage change with a compact circuit breaker, we have conducted a basic study of a semiconductor breaker with a semiconductor switch in the breaking part.
We propose an interruption method for controlling voltage change in the HVDC system, and also a circuit configuration of the semiconductor breaker that controls the voltage change and overvoltage applied to the semiconductor switch during current interruption. We confirmed good interruption performance of our semiconductor breaker in an actual shutdown situation.
