A novel "2d radio wave distribution imager" was developed by using a tunable electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) absorber, where a prototype tunable EBG absorber was designed on the basis of an equivalent circuit analysis and an EM simulation. However, the measured absorption characteristics of the absorber have not been sufficient. In this report, we propose a realistic equivalent circuit model of the EBG absorber including the parasitic resistance of a varicap diode, which is found to drastically reduce the amount of absorption. By using the equivalent circuit model, we examine how to achieve the better absorption of the tunable EBG absorber. |
