Propagation model and prediction method for sector area distortion -- Preservative Quality of Base Station Antenna Radiation Pattern in NLOS Region --

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Ideally, the form of the sector area is equal with that of the Base Station (BS) sector antenna radiation pattern.
However, it is conceivable that the wave transmitted from the BS to the Mobile Station (MS) is scattered by buildings existing
in the sector area, and the scattered waves may arrive at the outside of the ideally expected sector area. These scattered waves
cause the sector area distortion (SAD). The SAD is an important parameter to reveal the difference in sector area coverage
between ideal and real cases, and then to estimate the interference or the cooperation transmission performance between
sectors in real environment. The MIMO measurement campaign was carried out to reveal the SAD in Stanford University
campus. The measured results clarified that the horizontal range of the sector area became wider with respect to the distance
between BS and MS. When the distance was 500 m in the campus, the horizontal range of the sector area became 2 times
wider than that of the ideally expected sector area. Furthermore, the prediction method for the SAD was established, and the
prediction results showed very good agreement with the measured results.
