The quartz-crystal tuning-fork tactile sensor is a device to be capable of distinguishing the properties of the materials using its frequency, impedance, and capacitance change at resonance which relate to the Young’s modulus and viscosity coefficient or acoustic impedance and surface roughness of them in contact with its base. We investigated the relationship between the amount of liquid in a container and its frequency change after the base of quartz-crystal tuning-fork tactile sensor was attached to the top surface of a container with epoxy resin adhesives and then a container was filled with the liquids, water or a clear liquor, little by little. As a result, its frequency decreased as the height of the liquids in a container increased. Furthermore, we found that the experimental results could be qualitatively explained by the calculated frequency obtained from the equation of motion which was derived by introducing the mass loading of acrylic resin, liquids, and air in small region under its base to the model approximating the right half of the quartz crystal tuning fork as two flexural beams. This experimental method has possibility to measure the density of liquids in a container at full with no direct contact to liquids. |
