This paper presents the optimum two-antenna transmit diversity scheme for the uplink shared data channel from the viewpoint of the throughput performance in Long-Term Evolution (LTE)-Advanced using single carrier-frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA). Since the structure for the user equipment (UE)-specific demodulation reference signal (DM-RS) used for channel estimation is different for each transmit diversity scheme, a comparison of throughput performance taking into account the impact of channel estimation error when the channel estimation is conducted using DM-RS is quite important. Based on link-level and the system-level simulation results, we clarify that closed loop (CL)-precoding achieves better throughput performance compared to the other open loop (OL) type transmit diversity schemes, i.e., cyclic delay diversity (CDD), precoding vector switching (PVS), and space-time block code (STBC), in low-to-high mobility environments in various deployment scenarios. We also show that the performance of STBC is degraded compared to the other transmit diversity schemes due to the severe impact of channel estimation error. |
