We have proposed Linear Array Pipeline Processor (LAPP) which can map popular VLIW codes onto
FU array and execute them in high-speed. LAPP achieves high performance and power-efficiency by a flexible
data-path of FU array configured from the codes and working only minimum FUs in the execution time. But LAPP
had a constraint that the codes beyond the number of FUs cannot be mapped because one instruction is fixed
correspondingly to one FU. And the number of FUs is determined the largest number of instructions assumed to
execute so area per performance of LAPP was low. We propose a fine-grained time sharing mechanism to extend
FU array of LAPP. It allows LAPP to map and execute the codes beyond the physical constraint. In this report, we
simulate and evaluate from view point of a hardware, performance and power. According to the result of evaluation,
the extended LAPP executes from 4 to 6-folds faster than previous one and rise area per performance by 16 % while
it holds decline of power per performance by 20 %. |
