Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Ultrasonic-vibration cutting method may be effective for improving accuracy in the micromachining, which is a precision cutting method using ultrasonic vibration. In this study, we investigated an advanced micro-cutting using rotational cutting tools, such as end mills and small grinding wheels, by the ultrasonic-vibration cutting. First, we developed two types of small-sized high-speed ultrasonic spindle including ball bearing supported and hydrostatic pressure bearing supported spindles. Next, we investigated the cutting performance by using the developed spindles. As a result of experiment, we clarified that the cutting accuracy and efficiency is improved in high-aspect ratio grooves cutting of fine mold and brittle and hard materials, such as glass, ceramics and sintered carbide.
