Objective Evaluation of Somatic Sensations using Cortical Dipole Layer Imaging

(in English) In clinical situations, the objective evaluation of somatic sensations is expected without patient’s subjective opinions in order to reduce the social problems, such as lawsuits for the nerve injuries and malingering. In most brain researches, the somatic sensation evoked by electrical stimulations is different from the actual sensation evoked by mechanical stimulations. In the present study, we applied mechanical stimulations of the tactile sensation and measured somatosensory evoked potential (SEP). We improved the spatial resolution of SEPs by applying the cortical dipole layer imaging. Consequently, the SEPs were evaluated by varying the stimulation positions, strengths, and intervals.
