Brass instruments are blowed by vibrating the lips of the player just as the sound source of voice is produced by vibrating the vocal folds. It is empirically known that skilled players of brass instruments adjust the shape of the vocal tract depending on the blowing pitch, suggesting that the acoustical feedback of the vocal tract has some influence on the sound generation mechanism of the lips. The source-filter interaction in performing the trumpet is investigated in this paper by using morphological observation and acoustical analysis of the player’s vocal tract and a time-domain blowing simulation. |
