Spatial and Temporal Range of Binocular Local Contrast Effect

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We have previously demonstrated that there was a local depth contrast effect analogous to the effect of lateral inhibition of luminance domain which was different from the global processing of disparities such as slant contrast effect. In this study, we investigated spatial range of the local contrast effect manipulating the width of surfaces of inducer adjacent to the test stimuli. The results showed that the spatial range was around 0.3-0.4 deg. We also investigated the temporal range of this effect manipulating the timing of the presentation of the inducer surfaces. The results showed that simultaneous presentation is needed to show this effect and the disparity signals are integrated in the temporal range of 120-240 ms.
