Outline and in-orbit verification results of a pico-satellite HAYATO are described. The satellite was developed with a cooperation of industries, universities and governments in Kyushu area. Shape of the satellite is a 10-cm cube with a boom of 60-cm in length, and weight is 1.43 kg. In the satellite a compact 13-GHz transmitter is installed for observations of water vapor distributions at lower troposphere. Uplink of commands is made at 2-GHz band, and downlink of telemetry data at 13GHz band. The 13-GHz transmitter is also used for high-speed data transmission of image data taken with an onboard camera. The satellite was launched from Tanegashima Space Center on May 21, 2010, as piggyback of Venus mission AKATUKI and was put into a circular orbit of 300 km in altitude. After the successful launch, we have received 13-GHz downlink signals and confirmed that the satellite works in space. |
