Stabilization of Regenerative Harmonic Mode-Locked Fiber Ring Laser by using Semiconductor Optical Amplifier

(in English) We experimentally demonstrated stable pulse generation from a harmonic mode-locked fiber ring laser employing an erbium doped fiber optical amplifier and a semiconductor optical amplifier. It is known that SOAs can suppress supermode noise, that is typical in harmonic mode-locked lasers. Using a regenerative mode-locking technique, stable pulse generation is maintained for several hours with a repetition rate of about 10.66-GHz. We investigated the effect of the excitation levels of EDFA and SOA on the pulse waveforms, showing that the EDFA and the SOA played a role as a gain medium and a pulse shaper, respectively.
